Horse Racing News: Jayarebe Eyed for Deauville or York Stakes

Renowned trainer Brian Meehan has his sights set on a trip to either Deauville or York next month with his talented three-year-old colt, Jayarebe. The son of Zoffany secured a Group Three success at Royal Ascot, holding off King’s Gambit to claim the prestigious Hampton Court Stakes.

Jayarebe was initially expected to challenge for the Coral-Eclipse, aiming to emulate the heroics of David Junior, who secured the race for Meehan 18 years ago. However, the connections cited unsuitable soft ground at Sandown as the reason for withdrawing the colt from the clash with City Of Troy.

Despite missing the Coral-Eclipse, Jayarebe’s impressive form this season, including a Feilden Stakes triumph, has the team considering ambitious targets for his next outing. The Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville on August 15th or the Sky Bet York Stakes, both Group Two contests over 10 furlongs, are under consideration.

“The race here on the 15th of August, the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano, or there’s also a race at York at the end of July. I’m not sure that soft ground would have inconvenienced him, but we’ve been taking it nice and steady, race by race, with him, so I didn’t want to take the chance against City Of Troy. I’m sure the ground probably wouldn’t inconvenance him, but we’ll wait for that later in the season.”

The connections of the talented Jayarebe will be closely monitoring the conditions at both Deauville and York as they weigh their options for the colt’s next step in his promising campaign.
