Newmarket Preview: Thrilling Races and Promising Contenders at the July Festival
Newmarket’s July Festival kicks off on Thursday with a thrilling lineup of races, including several promising contenders looking to make their mark.
July Stakes: Ain’t Nobody Aims to Extend Unbeaten Run
In the July Stakes, Royal Ascot winner Ain’t Nobody will attempt to extend his unbeaten run for trainer Kevin Ryan and jockey Tom Eaves. The Sands Of Mali colt impressed with his powerful finish to catch US raider Gabaldon last time out, and Ryan is confident the step up in trip will suit the young star.
“He hit the line strong at Ascot and I don’t think the trip will be a problem,” said the trainer. “He’s won on different ground conditions and we’re very happy with him.”
Electrolyte Seeks Redemption in the July Stakes
Electrolyte, narrowly denied in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, will be out for redemption in this event for owners Wathnan Racing and trainer Archie Watson.
“He obviously ran very well at Ascot and we said this would be the obvious next step,” explained the owners’ racing advisor Richard Brown.
Norfolk Stakes Form Represented by Whistlejacket
The Norfolk Stakes form is also represented, with Whistlejacket looking to bounce back after just missing out to stablemate Shareholder at the Royal meeting. Jockey Ryan Moore believes the return to six furlongs will suit the Aidan O’Brien colt, who is “a good colt” capable of getting involved.
Princess of Wales’s Stakes: Giavellotto Aims for Irish St Leger Tilt
In the Princess of Wales’s Stakes, Marco Botti views the race as the ideal prep for Giavellotto ahead of a tilt at the Irish St Leger. The five-year-old entire is on a high after winning his second successive Yorkshire Cup, and Botti is hopeful the drop back to a mile and a half will suit.
Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes: Lead Artist Seeks Progress
In the Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes, Juddmonte will be represented by the progressive Lead Artist, who impressed at York last time out.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him run again,” said the owners’ European racing manager Barry Mahon.
Bahrain Trophy Stakes: Quality Quartet Includes Space Legend
The opening Bahrain Trophy Stakes features a quality quartet, including William Haggas’ Space Legend, who was second to the impressive Calandagan at Royal Ascot. Charlie Appleby’s Ancient Wisdom, a Group One winner at two, heads the market, and the trainer believes the step up in trip will suit.
With numerous intriguing storylines unfolding, Newmarket’s July Festival is shaping up to be an unmissable event for racing enthusiasts.
