Horse Racing News: Big Race Days Ahead at Saratoga, Del Mar, and Meadowlands

This week, the Ron Flatter Racing Pod is focused on three major race days at three prominent tracks.

At Saratoga Race Course, the highlight is the Grade 1, $1 million Whitney Stakes, featuring Pegasus World Cup (G1) and Met Mile (G1) winner National Treasure. New York Racing Association TV analyst Acacia Clément discusses this race, as well as the Test (G1), the Saratoga Derby (G1), and Cogburn in the Troy (G2).

Down at Del Mar, the spotlight is on the Clement L. Hirsch (G1), which could be the race of the weekend. Trainer Brendan Walsh, who conditioned Eclipse Award winner Pretty Mischievous, shares his insights on the differences between last year and this year for his champion filly and what she needs to do to win this weekend.

Meanwhile, at Meadowlands Racetrack, the $1 million Hambletonian, U.S. harness racing’s biggest event, takes center stage. Horse Racing Nation handicapper Ed DeRosa provides his tips for the Hirsch, the Whitney, and the Test, in addition to the Hambletonian.

The podcast also features a discussion by John Cherwa and Ron Flatter on the feedback they’ve received regarding trainer Kenny McPeek’s decision to send division-leading filly Thorpedo Anna against the boys in the Travers (G1) this month. Cherwa also reveals his pick for the most overrated horse in training.

The Ron Flatter Racing Pod, available via free subscription from Apple, Firefox, iHeart, Spotify, and HorseRacingNation.com, continues to provide in-depth coverage and analysis of the top news and events in the world of horse racing.
