Baffert Barn Shines as Top Horses Drill at Del Mar
The renowned Bob Baffert stable was busy at work on the Del Mar racetrack this Monday morning, with two of his top-level winners putting in solid workouts in preparation for upcoming starts.
Prince of Monaco, who most recently finished second in the Grade 1 Woody Stephens Stakes at Saratoga, breezed five furlongs in a time of 1:00.2, the seventh-fastest of 37 such works on the day. The Speightstown colt is expected to target the H. Allen Jerkens (G1) next.
Stablemate Speed Boat Beach, unraced since winning the prestigious Malibu Stakes (G1) last December, was also on the work tab, breezing four furlongs in 48.2 seconds, the fifth-fastest of 48 works at that distance. The Bayern colt is gearing up for a return to the races after his successful Malibu triumph.
Elsewhere on the work tab, the Richard Mandella-trained Forbidden Kingdom, a three-time Grade 2 winner on both dirt and turf, returned to the worktab for the first time in over three months. The son of American Pharoah breezed an easy two furlongs in 25.0 seconds, the second-fastest of six works at that distance, as he looks to build towards his next start.
