Horse Racing News: Live In The Dream Primed for Nunthorpe Title Defense
Trainer Adam West is feeling optimistic about Live In The Dream’s prospects as the talented sprinter prepares to defend his Nunthorpe Stakes title at York. The chestnut gelding enjoyed a remarkable rise through the ranks last year, progressing from handicaps to secure a prestigious Group 1 victory in the Nunthorpe.
Despite some solid performances in defeat this season, including a creditable fourth-place finish in the highly competitive King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood, West believes his stable star is on track for another bold showing in the Nunthorpe.
“We’re very happy after Goodwood,” the trainer commented. “He probably didn’t quite handle the track as well as others did, but I think it sets us up to be a nice thorn between Big Evs and Asfoora for the Nunthorpe, and Bradsell. If we could have a four-way battle, that would be brilliant.”
Live In The Dream’s Nunthorpe triumph last year, when he prevailed by a length over Highfield Princess, provided a career-defining moment for his jockey, trainer, and owners. The five-year-old then went on to represent his connections with distinction in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, finishing a respectable fourth on that occasion.
This season, the sprinter has faced tough tasks at Haydock and Sandown, but West believes the Nunthorpe has always been the primary target, and the team has “enough in the tank to go there with the same chance as we did last year.” With the likes of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Big Evs and the progressive Asfoora set to be in opposition, the stage is set for an enthralling renewal of the prestigious York sprint.
