Exciting Horse Racing News: Anisette Headlines Star-Studded Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar

(Del Mar, CA – July 22, 2024) The highly anticipated Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) takes center stage at Del Mar this Saturday, with the brilliant Anisette topping a talented field of six fillies and mares.

Anisette, the pride of trainer Leonard Powell’s barn, was the belle of Del Mar last year, capturing the Grade 2 San Clemente and the prestigious Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. Now a 4-year-old, the England-bred sensation is back to defend her turf dominance in the mile and a sixteenth contest.

“She’s very nice, very straightforward, and has matured nicely from last year,” Powell noted. “We gave her a well-deserved break over the winter, and she’s primed and ready to shine once again.”

Anisette will face a formidable challenge from a talented field, including a trio of runners from the barn of leading trainer Phil D’Amato. Uncorked, a graded stakes winner at Santa Anita, and Bellabel, victorious in the Megahertz (G3), will try to upstage the favorite. D’Amato’s third entrant, Lucky Girl, finished fourth in last year’s Yellow Ribbon.

Brendan Walsh, another top conditioner, ships in Fuente Ovejuna, fresh off a win in the $100,000 Indiana General Assembly Distaff. The mare has experience on the California circuit, having competed in the Royal Heroine (G3) at Santa Anita earlier this year.

The 72nd running of the Yellow Ribbon Handicap is set as the eighth race on Saturday’s 10-race card at Del Mar, with a probable post time of 8:30 p.m. EDT. Fans and enthusiasts won’t want to miss this thrilling showcase of top-class turf fillies and mares.
