SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – August 13, 2024 (Horse Racing News) – In a thrilling display of speed and determination, Carl Spackler, under the expert guidance of jockey Tyler Gaffalione, surged to victory in the prestigious Grade 1, $500,000 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga Race Course on Sunday.
Dispatched as the 2-1 second choice, the Chad Brown-trained colt proved too much for his rivals, collaring the early pacesetter Strong Quality (9-1) and comfortably holding off a late charge from More Than Looks to secure his first triumph at the top level. The 3-2 favorite Ottoman Fleet, representing Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby, finished a distant third under Flavien Prat.
Covering the mile distance on a good turf course in 1:36.63, Carl Spackler demonstrated his impressive versatility, following fractions of 24.76, 49.24, and 1:13.58 set by the early leader Strong Quality, who eventually crossed the line in fourth position.
