Captivating Horse Racing News: Perth Superstar Amelia’s Jewel Gears Up for Randwick Challenge

The star Perth-owned mare, Amelia’s Jewel, is building momentum towards her highly anticipated resumption in next month’s Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick. The talented racehorse has recently joined the stables of renowned trainers Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald, and her first public trial under their guidance saw the mare finishing a close second.

In the 900m heat, Amelia’s Jewel split the winning trial performer, Ducasse, and the third-placed Tiz Invincible. Jockey Tommy Berry, who has been entrusted with the ride, described the trial as a “light” affair, with the first 600m being a leisurely “trot and canter” before the horses sprinted up the straight.

“From all reports that I’ve been given in the past, she’s not usually the best worker or the best trialer,” Berry said on Tabradio. “She’s going to take improvement, she’s still got a belly on her, but pulled up really well in the wind.”

The experienced rider, who has guided Amelia’s Jewel to many of her previous victories, is confident that the mare will continue to improve ahead of her second trial, which will provide a better indication of her fitness level. “It wasn’t the strongest hit out and we’ll know more after her second trial, how forward she is fitness wise,” he added.

Amelia’s Jewel, who has amassed an impressive record under the tutelage of Perth trainer Simon Miller, transferred to the Sydney stables of Neasham and Archibald following her final run in the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) in Adelaide. During her time with Miller, the versatile mare won nine races, finished second four times, and accumulated a staggering $3.5 million in prize money. Her crowning achievement was a victory in the prestigious Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) at Ascot.

Last spring, Amelia’s Jewel showcased her versatility by claiming dual Group 2 victories in the Let’s Elope (1400m) at Flemington and the Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley. Now, with her sights set on the Tramway Stakes, the mare’s connections and fans are eagerly awaiting her next chapter as she embarks on her Sydney campaign under the guidance of her new trainers.
