“As it was nice ground, we thought we would bring him up here for a spin,” said Appleby. “I was very pleased with how he came out of the Sussex Stakes, and the plan is to head to the Prix du Moulin. Paul (Eddery) knows him inside out and was delighted with him, and I was pleased with the way he picked up, so it was job done.”
Trainer Charlie Appleby has expressed satisfaction with the performance of his stable star, Notable Speech, after the colt completed a successful racecourse gallop at Newmarket’s July Course. The exercise was seen as the final preparation for Notable Speech’s bid to claim a hat-trick of Group One victories this season in the prestigious Prix du Moulin at Longchamp in France on September 8.
The 2023 QIPCO 2000 Guineas winner, who bounced back from defeat in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot with a victory in the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, moved effortlessly past his workmate, Highland Avenue, under the guidance of jockey Paul Eddery. Appleby was pleased with the way his star miler finished the exercise, stating that “it was job done” as the team sets their sights on the upcoming trip to Paris.

Appleby also provided updates on other talented two-year-olds in his stable, including Ancient Truth, who will bid to give the trainer a fourth success in the prestigious Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on September 15. The son of Dubawi, who extended his unbeaten record in last month’s Group Two bet365 Superlative Stakes, impressed in a gallop at Newmarket, with Appleby confident the colt has the right profile to challenge for the seven-furlong contest in Ireland.
Furthermore, Appleby shared insights on the potential targets for his unbeaten two-year-olds, Anno Domini and Desert Flower. The trainer revealed that Anno Domini could be aimed at the Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket, while Desert Flower is likely to target the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster, provided she continues her impressive start to her career.
