Fallen Angel Ruled Out of Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot

In a surprising development, Fallen Angel, the Irish 1,000 Guineas champion, has been ruled out of the upcoming Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. The news was confirmed by trainer Karl Burke, who expressed his disappointment but remained optimistic about the filly’s recovery.

“Unfortunately, she’s had a little training setback and she’s not going to be able to run next week. We’re not sure how long it’s going to hold us up for at this stage, hopefully it’s not too serious,” Burke said.

Fallen Angel’s absence has led to a reshuffling of the Coronation Stakes field. Opera Singer, who finished third at the Curragh, has now been installed as the bookmakers’ favorite, as she seeks to recapture her impressive juvenile form. The Newmarket Guineas first and second-place finishers, Elmalka and Porta Fortuna, are also among the 11 possible runners, along with the French challenger Ramatuelle, who finished third at Headquarters after fading late in the race.

The confirmed list of entries for the prestigious Group One contest includes:

  • Chic Colombine
  • Content
  • Devoted Queen
  • Folgaria
  • Rouhiya
  • See The Fire
  • Skellet

While the loss of Fallen Angel is undoubtedly a disappointment for racing enthusiasts, the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot is still shaping up to be a thrilling event, with a talented field vying for the coveted prize.
