Equestrian Enthusiasts Gear Up for Exhilarating Gran Premio Pamplona (G1) Race

Equestrian enthusiasts, gear up for an exhilarating day of racing action as the highly anticipated Group 1 Gran Premio Pamplona (G1) takes center stage at Hipodromo de Monterrico this Sunday. A field of 17 talented fillies and mares will vie for the coveted title, with the winner earning an automatic starting position and paid fees for the prestigious $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Alexandrina Enters as the Favorite

Alexandrina, the seasoned 5-year-old trained by Eduardo Pianezzi for Stud El Tri, enters the race fresh off a dominant 1 1/2-length victory in the May 26 Clásico República Argentina (G3) over the Monterrico course. With an impressive eight wins in 22 turf starts at the venue, Alexandrina is a force to be reckoned with.

Challenging the Favorite

Challenging the favorite are the third- and fourth-place finishers from the Clásico República Argentina: Stud Jet Set’s 3-year-old Fiel Estrellita and Stud Dos Gio’s 5-year-old Raika, both trained by the renowned Juan Suarez Villarroel, who boasts over 10,000 career victories. Fiel Estrellita, a daughter of Il Campione, has been in the money in four of her five outings this year, while Raika, a daughter of Minister’s Joy, finished second in the 2022 Gran Premio Pamplona and third in last year’s edition.

Villarroel’s Other Contender

Another Villarroel-trained contender is Stud Paracas’s 3-year-old Boudica, a filly by The Lieutenant who returned to action on June 1 with a fourth-place finish in a 1-mile allowance race at Monterrico. Boudica has eight top-three finishes in 10 starts, including a victory in the 2023 Clásico Postin (G2) after the first two finishers were disqualified.

Kentucky-bred Macanuda

Fans will also have an eye on Stud Juan De Arona’s Macanuda, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Noble Mission. Since making her debut last November, Macanuda has been in the money in all six of her starts, including a second-place finish in the listed Clasico Ernesto Ayulo Pardo at Monterrico in her most recent outing.

The stage is set for an exciting showdown at Hipodromo de Monterrico this Sunday, as these talented fillies and mares compete for the coveted Group 1 Gran Premio Pamplona title and a guaranteed spot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
