Khaadem Retains Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes Title at Royal Ascot
In a thrilling display of speed and jockeying prowess, Khaadem defended his Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes title at Royal Ascot, securing a second consecutive victory in the prestigious Group One contest.
The Charlie Hills-trained sprinter, who shocked the racing world with an 80/1 triumph in the same race last year, once again proved his mettle on the fast ground he relishes. Ridden masterfully by the ice-cool Oisin Murphy, the 14/1 shot Khaadem overcame a relatively small field of 13 runners to get up and beat Swingalong by half a length.
“What a horse. Two wins of of these plus a Palace House, a Stewards’ Cup and a King George at Goodwood,” beamed a delighted Hills. “He got a fantastic ride there, off the pace, and he never looked like he was going to get beat.”
Swingalong, trained by Karl Burke, had set the pace for much of the six-furlong contest but was unable to hold off the fast-finishing Khaadem in the closing stages. Mill Stream finished third, with the 3/1 favorite Believing – who had been fourth in the King Charles III Stakes just four days earlier – occupying the same position.
Winning jockey Oisin Murphy was full of praise for his mount, saying:
“He came alive as they slowed down, he was always going to win because he was the only one finishing, wasn’t he? The horse loves Ascot and he was well prepared. It was a pretty easy ride.”
The victory added to the impressive tally of the Charlie Hills yard, who have enjoyed a stellar season so far. Hills also provided a positive update on the condition of his father, legendary trainer Barry Hills, who has been hospitalized but is said to be improving daily.
With Khaadem’s triumph, the horse racing enthusiasts have been treated to another thrilling chapter in the story of the gifted sprinter, who continues to delight connections and fans alike with his resilience and talent on the track.
