Thrilling Belmont Guineas Victory for Talented Filly Luvnwar
In an exhilarating display of equine talent, the three-year-old filly Luvnwar clinched her first black type win at the Listed Amelia Park-Belmont Guineas (1600m) on Saturday. Jockey Pat Carbery, who guided the promising youngster to the victory, believes this triumph is just the beginning for the impressive filly.
Carbery, who has developed a successful partnership with Luvnwar since her arrival from New Zealand, secured his second Belmont Guineas success in four years. The talented jockey expertly positioned the $4.40 chance in third place before unleashing a powerful sprint in the final 100 meters to pip the fast-finishing Petrouchka by 1 1/4 lengths. Cool Memory, who had led the race, held on for third.
“She’s a big striding filly who makes her own luck and jumps really well,” Carbery said of Luvnwar. “Once she got cover, she settled well and didn’t over-race. She’s still learning, but she won with authority.”
The jockey believes that the promising three-year-old has a bright future, with the Belmont Oaks (2000m) in two weeks well within her grasp. “I’ve always felt she’s got the action to be a horse that can run 2000 meters,” Carbery commented. “The way she went to the line on Saturday, I don’t think the distance will be a concern.”
Luvnwar’s victory marks an important milestone in her burgeoning career, and with Carbery’s confidence in her abilities, the talented filly is poised to make a significant impact on the Western Australian racing scene.
