HORSE RACING NEWS: Cox Excited for July Cup Clash with Jasour at Newmarket

(Newmarket) – Trainer Clive Cox is eagerly anticipating the upcoming My Pension Expert July Cup at Newmarket, where his Royal Ascot third-place finisher Jasour could face a potential rematch against Inisherin.

Jasour, the winner of the July Stakes as a juvenile, has already demonstrated his affinity for the July Course at Headquarters. Although the son of Havana Grey experienced some ups and downs after securing Group Two honors at two, he has rediscovered his best form this season. Following a win in the Pavilion Stakes on Trials day at Ascot, Jasour put in a highly respectable third-place finish in his return to Group One action at the Royal meeting.

“He ran a really nice race and there is still a bit of fine-tuning and work to do, but we are very much positive about the performance,” said Cox. “I’m encouraged by the way he has come out of the race; the winner was very impressive, but I feel we can improve on our performance.”

Cox also expressed confidence in Jasour’s suitability for the July Course, citing the colt’s previous victory in the July Stakes last year. With three-year-olds holding a strong record in the July Cup, the trainer is eager to follow that path.

Additionally, Cox was pleased with the performance of Kerdos, who finished a creditable fifth in the King Charles III Stakes on the opening day of the Royal meeting. The display backed up Kerdos’ previous win in the Temple Stakes at Haydock on easier ground, and the connections plan to continue aiming high with the improving four-year-old.

“Kerdos and Jasour are two exciting horses going forwards โ€“ and I’m really happy with how they have come out of Ascot,” concluded Cox.

Horse racing enthusiasts will surely be keeping a close eye on the July Cup at Newmarket, where Jasour’s potential rematch with Inisherin promises to be a thrilling showdown.
