Timeform Provides Ratings Reaction to Standout Royal Ascot Two-Year-Old Performances
In the latest edition of Horse Racing News, Timeform has shared its assessment of the impressive two-year-old displays at the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting. Headlining the coverage is the wide-margin victory of Bedtime Story in the Chesham Stakes.
Bedtime Story looked nothing short of exceptional when stretching clear by nine and a half lengths under a hands-and-heels ride. The Aidan O’Brien-trained filly’s commanding performance earned her a higher Timeform rating than the 114p awarded to last season’s leading juvenile filly, Opera Singer, for her Prix Marcel Boussac success.
While the quality of Bedtime Story’s rivals remains to be fully determined, the visual impression she created was backed up by an excellent time figure. Timeform notes that Bedtime Story emerges as the highest-rated Chesham Stakes winner this century, surpassing the likes of Churchill and Pinatubo.
Bedtime Story is now Timeform’s highest-rated two-year-old, with her trainer Aidan O’Brien also responsible for the second highest, Fairy Godmother. The latter produced a remarkable performance to win the Albany Stakes, overcoming substantial trouble in-running to prevail by three-quarters of a length in what was a generally strong renewal.
Coventry Stakes and Other Performances
While the Coventry Stakes is widely seen as the premier two-year-old race at the meeting, Timeform suggests the bare form of this year’s renewal fell somewhat short of the usual high standard. The shock 80/1 winner, Rashabar, is nonetheless marked up for his convincing four-length victory in the far-side group.
Elsewhere, Wathnan Racing enjoyed their first Royal Ascot winner of the week courtesy of Leovanni’s impressive triumph in the Queen Mary Stakes. The Karl Burke-trained filly won with authority, while Shareholder (104p) provided another big-priced success for the Wathnan operation in the Norfolk Stakes.
