Record-Breaking International Field at Juddmonte
York, [Current Date] – The prestigious Juddmonte International has attracted a record number of overseas entries for the 2024 renewal, set to offer a historic £1,250,000 in prize money.
Leading the international contingent is Durezza, the Japanese St Leger champion owned by the enthusiastic Carrot Farm Co syndicate. Trained by Tomohito Ozeki, the stable has previously tasted success in Hong Kong, but this would mark their first European foray. The colt will be aiming to go one better than Zenno Rob Roy, who finished second in the race nearly two decades ago after making the 25,000-mile round trip.
Continental Europe could have a strong presence, with five entries from France and Germany. The French quartet includes Zarakem and Horizon Dore, who both impressed with second and third-place finishes in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last week. Marseille-based trainer Jerome Reynier sends Zarakem, seeking to end France’s 37-year drought in the Juddmonte International since Triptych’s triumph in 1987. The Francis-Henri Grafford-trained duo of Zarir and Calandagan, the latter victorious in the King Edward VII Stakes, complete the French challenge.
Representing Germany is Fantastic Moon, the German Derby winner, who will be making his British debut under the tutelage of Sarah Steinberg’s Munich-based stable.
Ireland’s challenge is led by the impressive Betfred Derby winner, City of Troy, trained by Aidan O’Brien. The Ballydoyle maestro, who has won the Juddmonte International six times, also has ten other entries, including Auguste Rodin and Continuous, the latter the winner of last season’s Sky Bet Great Voltigeur. The sole other Irish entry comes from John Joseph Murphy with Group One victor, White Birch.
“The stage is set for a truly international clash of equine superstars at the iconic York Racecourse, as the Juddmonte International continues to cement its reputation as one of the most prestigious races on the global racing calendar.”
