Horse Racing News: Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr Aim for Queensland Group One Glory with Amenable in Stradbroke Handicap
In the upcoming Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday, the training duo of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr will be eyeing further Queensland Group One success, this time with their promising galloper Amenable.
The pair have already tasted major victory during the carnival, with their horse Warmonger romping to a dominant 10-length triumph in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m). Now, they are hoping Amenable can secure his first ever Group One and black-type win.
Amenable’s Promising Performances
Despite the son of the late Lonhro having already proven his class with placings in four Group races, including a second-place finish to Magic Time in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), Amenable has only managed to win a maiden and a benchmark 84 race so far in his career.
“He was most unlucky in the Scone race, the Luskin Star. He likes being trained fresh, the four-week gap between runs should suit. He had a week on the grass, and we know he’s in the race,” said Kent Jnr.
Primed for Stradbroke Handicap
Kent Jnr believes the horse is primed and ready to fire in the Stradbroke Handicap, having been unlucky in his most recent outing in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) at Scone, where he was narrowly beaten while carrying 60kg.
Amenable has had four runs this campaign, starting back in March at Flemington, and Kent Jnr believes the well-spaced nature of his runs will be beneficial heading into Saturday’s feature event.
“That will be his fifth run of the campaign and we didn’t want to jam another one into the campaign and risk him being over the top. He’ll go into the Stradbroke on fresh legs.”
Amenable has been allotted 52.5kg for the Stradbroke Handicap, but the weights may be raised for all horses by up to 1.5kg when the final field is announced on Tuesday morning. He is currently the $8 second favorite with online bookmakers, behind the $7 favorite Antino.
Jockey Chad Schofield has been booked to ride Amenable, and the training duo of Price and Kent Jnr will be hoping to continue their Queensland carnival success with a victory in the prestigious Stradbroke Handicap.
