Jaylah Kennedy Notches 80th Winner at Mornington

In the latest update from the Victorian horse racing scene, rising star Jaylah Kennedy reached an impressive milestone at Mornington Racecourse on Monday. The 23-year-old jockey recorded her 80th career winner, while also outriding her 3kg claim at country meetings.

Kennedy’s winning ride came aboard the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained filly, Bossy Nic, who secured victory in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old. In Monday’s benchmark 64 race over 1200m, Kennedy showcased her poise and patience, easing the $4 second-elect Bossy Nic over the heels of the leaders to catch and hold off Valois ($8) by a long neck, with Treasurway ($14) finishing third. The race favorite, Sioux Spirit, was unable to match the winner, coming home in sixth place.

“It just shows that Jaylah is a very competent young rider… she didn’t panic and she just had to wait a little bit longer than she wanted to but she got out and the filly was good enough,” McEvoy said.

The victory came just a day after Kennedy’s first win at the prestigious Flemington Racecourse, aboard Lady In Pink. She expressed her delight in adding another win for the McEvoy stable, where she has found great support and opportunities.

“I’m just taking every opportunity as it comes and I’ve been really lucky to get a lot of good support and I’m really grateful for it and glad I can get the results,” Kennedy said. “They (McEvoys) have been great to me, they’re a really great bunch, we all have a laugh and it’s good to get the results and having fun doing it.”

With her 80th career win and the ability to now ride without a claim at country meetings, Jaylah Kennedy has firmly established herself as one of the rising stars in the Victorian jockey ranks. Racing enthusiasts will be eager to follow her continued success as she navigates the competitive world of horse racing.
