Everso Mischievous Looks to Notch Second New York Graded Win in John A. Nerud Stakes

Everso Mischievous, owned by Qatar Racing and trained by two-time Eclipse Award winner Brad Cox, will seek his second New York graded stakes victory in Saturday’s $200,000 Grade 2 John A. Nerud Stakes at Belmont at the Big A. The seven-furlong sprint for older horses is part of the undercard to the Belmont Derby (G1) and Belmont Oaks (G1) invitationals.

Everso Mischievous, an Into Mischief bay, enters off a winning 4-year-old debut in a one-mile optional claimer on May 31 at Churchill Downs. The multiple graded stakes winner will break from post 1 under jockey Tyler Gaffalione, carrying top weight of 122 pounds.

Other Contenders

  • Mullikin, a 4-year-old Violence colt owned by Siena Farm and WinStart Farm and trained by Rodolphe Brisset, will look to build on a pair of career-best 98 Beyer Speed Figure efforts this year. Flavien Prat has the mount from post 5.
  • Ninetyprcentmaddie, a Pennsylvania-bred trained by Butch Reid, who has been knocking on the door in recent graded stakes tries.
  • Prevalence, owned by Godolphin and trained by Brendan Walsh, seeking to bounce back.
  • Coastal Mission, a West Virginia-bred coming off a strong effort for trainer Jeff Runco.

“The Nerud is set as the eighth race on the card, with a post time of 4:11 p.m. EDT. The Dwyer (G3) for 3-year-olds will serve as the opening stakes event, going as the second race at 1:04 p.m. EDT.”
