Flemington Racetrack Set for Thrilling Winter Championship Final

(Flemington Racecourse, [Today’s Date]) – The stage is set for an exciting showdown at the Winter Championship Final at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday, as trainers and jockeys look to unseat the favored Munhamek.

One of the leading contenders, Pounding, trained by the dynamic duo of Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, will be aiming to turn the tables on Munhamek after their last encounter. At the Caulfield race on June 1 over 1600 meters, Munhamek finished a narrow 1-1/4 length ahead of Pounding, who encountered a similarly troubled run to finish third.

Moody remains confident in Pounding’s chances, stating, “> The last time we met the favorite, he (Pounding) was unlucky and so was Munhamek. He’s good enough to win this type of race, but he’s one of those horses that everything’s got to fall into place.”

Pounding has shown his versatility, stepping up to 1800 meters at Sandown on June 15 and finishing a close second to Cadmus. Moody believes the horse is ready for the step up to 2000 meters, but has opted to keep him at the mile distance for this race, hoping to capitalize on the typically drier Flemington surface.

“He’s been wonderfully consistent throughout his career, it’s just that wet tracks have hampered him,” Moody explained. “We just want a firm deck, which Flemington usually presents. He’s drawn five, so he should get a nice, sweet run and hopefully he gets his chance.”

Pounding, to be ridden by the experienced Luke Nolen, is currently the $6 second favorite in the Winter Championship betting behind the $4.80 favorite Munhamek. With a career-best third-place finish in last year’s Group 1 Australian Cup at Flemington, the stage is set for Pounding to potentially turn the tables and claim the $200,000 Listed Winter Championship Final.

Fans and industry insiders alike will be eagerly anticipating the thrilling showdown this Saturday at Flemington Racecourse. Stay tuned for all the latest updates from this highly anticipated horse racing event.
