Introducing the Latest Equine Sensation: Clear Thinking Stuns at Randwick in Highway Handicap

In a breathtaking display of raw talent, the up-and-coming mare Clear Thinking has lit up the racetrack at Randwick, securing a remarkable victory in the prestigious Highway Handicap.

Trained by the esteemed Paul Messara, Clear Thinking overcame an early slip at the start to produce a dynamic performance, leaving the seasoned racegoers in awe. Jockey Zac Lloyd, who had to quickly adapt his race strategy, ultimately guided the four-year-old to a thrilling half-neck triumph over Tanglewood, with Lisztomania finishing a further long neck behind in third place.

“You wouldn’t have found a slower run race, but she settled really ‘good’ despite the slow speed,” Lloyd commented, visibly relieved to have piloted the victorious mare to the finish line. “At the hundred metres, I thought we had no chance โ€“ I don’t know how she won.”

Nor does Messara, who admitted that he is still trying to determine the full extent of Clear Thinking’s capabilities. The trainer explained:

“She’s a filly with a big future. You can’t do more than win three from three, so we will find out where the ceiling is probably next preparation.”

Bred to Northern Hemisphere time by the late Queen Elizabeth II, Clear Thinking is by the renowned sire Dubawi out of the Australian Group 1 winner Sweet Idea. The mare, originally part of a breeding and stock dispersal following the Queen’s passing, was purchased by Arrowfield and given the opportunity to showcase her talents on the racetrack.

Her recent exploits have now convinced the connections to put her breeding career on hold, at least for the time being. Clear Thinking has emerged as a serious contender for the upcoming $2 million Kosciuszko (1200m) in October, where she is currently the $8 second pick behind the defending titleholder, Front Page ($4.50).

As the horse racing community eagerly awaits Clear Thinking’s next challenge, one thing is certain: this remarkable mare has firmly established herself as a rising star in the Australian racing scene, captivating audiences and leaving her connections eager to uncover the true extent of her talent and potential.
