Woodbine Racecourse Welcomes Exciting Gal in a Rush Victory in Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes

(Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto, ON – July 6, 2024) In a thrilling display at Woodbine Racecourse, Gal in a Rush made a stunning comeback to win the Grade 3, US$103,283 Hendrie Stakes on Saturday. Trained by the esteemed Christophe Clément for owners West Point Thoroughbreds, Chris Larsen, and Titletown Racing Stables, the 5-year-old mare by Ghostzapper showcased her impressive closing speed to claim victory in the 6 1/2-furlong synthetic-track sprint for fillies and mares.

Gal in a Rush, ridden by jockey Kazushi Kimura, had previously finished second in the 2022 Alywow Stakes at Woodbine. However, on Saturday, she made amends, surging from the back of the pack to cross the finish line 1 1/4 lengths ahead of the competition.

The Race

The early pace was set by Owen’s Tour Guide, who led the field from the outside post position, followed closely by Awesome Treat, Marissa’s Lady, and the even-money favorite, Play the Music, a multiple graded stakes winner. Gal in a Rush, who was last early on, gradually made her move, powering through the stretch to secure the victory.

“She’s the type to take it easy for the first half and try to finish up strong,” said jockey Kazushi Kimura. “I tried to put on the pressure and make sure I’m in the clear. That’s what I did today. It’s kind of like gambling, but she just responded so well.”

Gal in a Rush picked up her first stakes win on Saturday, adding US$59,374 to her career earnings, which now stand at US$391,723. The bay mare, who was purchased for US$375,000 at the 2021 OBS March Sale of 2-year-olds in training, paid $15.10 for the win.

This exciting victory at Woodbine Racecourse showcases the talent and determination of Gal in a Rush, as she continues to make her mark in the world of Canadian horse racing.
