Vetiver Claims Second Listed-Class Victory at Chelmsford, Eyeing Qatar Goodwood Festival
Chelmsford – Vetiver, the four-year-old daughter of Twilight Son, has captured her second Listed-class victory in the bet365 Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes at Chelmsford. The seven-furlong contest has been won by impressive performers in the past, and Andrew Balding’s mare has now joined the prestigious roll of honor.
Making her all-weather debut, Vetiver showcased her versatility by forging ahead at the furlong pole and fending off the late charge of Cloud Cover by a neck. The victory follows her previous Listed-level success at Carlisle around this time last year, and jockey David Probert is optimistic about the mare’s potential for the upcoming summer season.
“She’s a dual Listed winner and came here off the back of a run at Lingfield where she had a bit of a bad draw,” Probert commented. “Nice draw today, she’s worked on a similar kind of surface at home and she seems to go well on it. It was a relatively even gallop, and she was able to relax.”
The fast time recorded in the race was likely due to the water-logged nature of the all-weather track, which tends to tighten up in such conditions. Probert believes Vetiver’s ability to handle the surface and her recent improvement in racing attitude make her a strong contender for upcoming events, particularly the prestigious Qatar Goodwood Festival.
“I suppose Cheveley Park and Andrew will have a plan with her, but she’s taken her racing a lot better, especially the last couple of times, so you’d think a track like Goodwood should suit her,” Probert added.
As the attention turns to the Qatar Goodwood Festival, horse racing enthusiasts will eagerly await Vetiver’s next outing, where she will have the opportunity to showcase her talent and potentially add another prestigious victory to her growing list of accomplishments.
