Bluestocking Impresses in Tough York Outing

Juddmonte’s talented filly Bluestocking continued to show her class on the racetrack with a gallant fourth-place finish in the prestigious Juddmonte International at York Racecourse. The daughter of Camelot, who broke through for her first career Group 1 victory earlier this summer, was matching strides with the best horses in training over the same course and distance where she triumphed in the Middleton Stakes back in May.

“We were absolutely delighted with her performance,” said Barry Mahon, European Racing Manager for owner Juddmonte. “When we look back, this will be considered one of the races of the year, and she has more than held her own to finish fourth.”

The consistent four-year-old filly has now tackled the elite level on consecutive occasions, having also chased home the talented Goliath for second place in the prestigious King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot last month.

“She has never let us down,” continued Mahon. “The ground was probably a bit quicker than ideal, but she ran exceptionally well against the very best.”

Bluestocking is now set for a brief freshening up period before connections target further top-level engagements later in the year. Both the Prix de l’Opera at ParisLongchamp’s Arc weekend and the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot’s Champions Day are under consideration for the talented mare.

“We will give September a miss and really get her ready for Longchamp and Ascot in October,” Mahon revealed. “The Prix de l’Opera would be the preferred option over the Arc itself, as she is probably a couple of lengths behind the colts at this stage. Sticking to her own sex for the rest of the year gives her the best chance of adding another Group 1 to her record.”

Juddmonte will also be represented in the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes by the Andrew Balding-trained Kalpana, providing the operation with two exciting distaffers to look forward to in the autumn.
