Thrilling Horse Racing News: Bradsell Secures Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Berth with Nunthorpe Stakes Victory
In a captivating display of equine power and jockey brilliance, Bradsell, the two-time Royal Ascot winner, has secured his spot in the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint after a commanding victory in the Group 1 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes at York Racecourse on Friday.
Bradsell’s Dominant Performance
The 4-year-old colt, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by the talented Hollie Doyle, overcame a strong challenge from the early pacesetter Ponntos to surge clear in the final furlong, holding off a determined line of closers to cross the finish line 3/4 length in front.
“I had plenty left, although he was idling a bit,” said jockey Hollie Doyle after the race. “The scary thing is, I probably could have gone quicker.”
Strong Competition and Breeders’ Cup Qualification
Believing, trained by Aidan O’Brien, secured the runner-up spot, while the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Big Evs finished third in a thrilling finish. The heavily-backed favorite, Asfoora, could only manage fourth place.
Bradsell, a son of Tasleet out of the mare Russian Punch, had made a successful return to the racetrack earlier this month, winning the Listed Prix du Cercle at Deauville. His connections were delighted to see him back in top form, especially after he had to be scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in 2023 due to a cannon bone fracture.
Bradsell’s victory in the Nunthorpe Stakes has now earned him a coveted spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint later this year, where he will look to add another prestigious title to his growing resume.
