Impressive Hilary Needler Winner Set for Beverley and York Tests
Beverley, UK – Brian Ellison’s two-year-old filly Perfect Part, the stunning 125/1 winner of the historic Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley, is set to return to the Yorkshire track next week before stepping up in class for the prestigious Sky Bet Lowther Stakes at York.
The Mehmas offspring caused a major upset in the renowned two-year-old event on the Westwood, and the form of that victory has received a significant boost following the performance of the runner-up, Maw Lam, who finished third in the prestigious Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot last week.
Ellison, confident in his smart prospect, commented,
“The form has been given a nice boost. She runs next week back at Beverley (Friday) and then she has been entered for the Lowther. We thought about Ascot, but the owner, Keith Brown, wasn’t that keen, so we just thought we’d look for an easier option for her second run. You can only have a hard race at Ascot, so we’ll go back to Beverley and then go to York. It’s just a normal fillies’ novice when she’ll have a penalty.”
While the trainer admitted he did not expect Perfect Part to be quite so streetwise on debut, he was pleased with the filly’s performance.
“I must have thought a little bit about her to put her in the race in the first place. I did say to Keith I couldn’t see her winning but she wouldn’t show him up. I did think she was all right and that she’d run well,” Ellison said.
“I think she won quite cosy, though. I know the second and third thought they were unlucky, but she had to wait until the last 100 yards before she got a kick in the belly and she was going away at the line. This way, she just gets an extra week as well, you can get carried away going to Ascot and on that firm ground it might not have suited.”
Fans of horse racing will be eagerly awaiting Perfect Part’s next outing at Beverley, followed by her step up in class for the prestigious Sky Bet Lowther Stakes at York, as Ellison and his team look to build on the filly’s impressive debut victory.
