Exciting Updates in the World of Horse Racing: Ten Deep Shines in Sandown Debut
The dynamic duo of trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman are unlikely to push European import Ten Deep too hard after her impressive maiden city win at Sandown Racecourse over the weekend.
The daughter of Ten Sovereigns followed up her maiden victory at Seymour with a convincing success in the IVE Handicap (1400m) on Saturday. Ten Deep had two starts in Ireland before making the journey to Australia and joining the Moody-Coleman stables in Pakenham, where she has now registered two wins and a third-place finish from three starts.
Ridden by talented jockey Linda Meech, Ten Deep ($5.50) held off the $4.40 favorite Justadeel by three-quarters of a length, with Gallant Prince ($5) finishing a half-length behind in third.
“She’s just a beautiful horse to have around. She’s got a fantastic nature and she’s handled her first racing prep with us really well,” Coleman said.
The team had considered giving Ten Deep a break after her Seymour win, but the filly thrived between races, prompting the decision to press on for one more start. That proved to be a winning move, as Ten Deep is now a city-winning filly.
“We may look to turn her out now and bring her back towards the back end of spring and look to some nicer races,” Coleman revealed. “We think she will be a really nice horse when she gets out to that mile range.”
Jockey Linda Meech, who was riding Ten Deep for the first time in a race, praised the filly’s potential, noting her sharp turn of foot and ability to run away from her rivals in trackwork, though she is yet to fully translate that to race day.
“She’s a filly with a good turn of foot that doesn’t know how to put them away,” Meech said.
With a bright future ahead, racing enthusiasts will be eagerly following the progress of this talented European import as she continues to develop under the guidance of the Moody-Coleman team.
