Charyn to Face Off Against Notable Speech in Prix du Moulin

Trainer Roger Varian is considering another shot at French Group One glory for his talented colt Charyn, potentially setting up a mouthwatering showdown with 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner Notable Speech in the Prix du Moulin on September 8.

Owned by Nurlan Bizakov, the grey Charyn has reached new heights this season, most recently delivering a career-best performance when finishing three lengths ahead of Metropolitan to clinch victory in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.

“He came out really well from Deauville, and we are considering the Moulin in a couple weeks’ time,” said Varian. “The QEII is his big autumn target, and we’re looking at Longchamp on the way to that.”

With four wins in five starts this year, including a second top-level success, Charyn was originally thought to be headed straight to the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot’s British Champions Day in October. However, Varian has now hinted at a run in the Prix du Moulin at ParisLongchamp as a stepping stone to the QEII.

Firmly on course for the Prix du Moulin is the Charlie Appleby-trained Notable Speech, who bounced back from a Royal Ascot disappointment with a victory in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. The Classic-winning colt underwent a successful away day at Newmarket’s July course on Friday as part of his preparations for the potential clash with Charyn in France.

“It all went well, it was nothing too serious, it was just to get him away from home on some nice ground,” said Appleby’s assistant trainer Alex Merriam. “We were all happy, and the plan is to go to the Moulin.”

Racegoers and fans of top-level horse racing are in for a treat if this high-profile matchup materializes, as Charyn and Notable Speech battle it out for the prestigious Prix du Moulin title on September 8.
