Dornoch Earns Highest Brisnet Speed Rating in Belmont Stakes Upset

The horse racing world witnessed a thrilling upset this past weekend, as Dornoch earned the highest Brisnet Speed Rating of 106 among last week’s stakes winners for his victory in the prestigious Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

Ridden by regular jockey Luis Saez, the Good Magic colt, a full brother to 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage, covered the 1 1/4-mile race at Saratoga in an impressive time of 2:01.64. This landmark win marked the first Grade 1 triumph for trainer Danny Gargan.

Dornoch’s impressive performance also earned him a 101 Beyer Speed Figure and a 125 TimeformUS Speed Figure, further solidifying his status as a rising star in the sport.

Cogburn Storms to Victory in Jaipur

The weekend’s highest Beyer Speed Figure of 111 went to Cogburn, who stormed to victory in the Grade 1 Jaipur at Saratoga. Ridden by Irad Ortiz, the 5-year-old son of Not This Time covered the 5 1/2-furlong turf course in a record-setting time of 59.80 seconds for trainer Steve Asmussen. Cogburn also earned a 100 Brisnet Speed Rating and a 131 TimeformUS Speed Figure for his impressive performance.

The 111 Beyer earned by Cogburn was the second-highest of the year, behind only Ova Charged’s 113 Beyer for her 12 1/2-length win in the March 24 Page Cortez Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Arthur’s Ride Earns 111 Beyer

In another noteworthy performance, 4-year-old Arthur’s Ride also earned a 111 Beyer for his win in an optional-claiming allowance race at Saratoga on Friday. Ridden by Junior Alvarado, the Tapit colt led the 1 1/4-mile race gate-to-wire, winning by an impressive 12 3/4 lengths for trainer Bill Mott.
