Horse Racing News: Elwateen Eyeing Betfred May Hill Stakes After Impressive Debut Win
Elwateen, the beautifully-bred filly by Dubawi out of the Prix Saint Alary winner Tawkeel, has the Betfred May Hill Stakes at Doncaster on her agenda following a winning debut at Kempton recently.
The Next Step
The Group Two contest on September 12 would be a fitting next step for the talented youngster, according to her trainer Saeed bin Suroor of Godolphin. The Fillies’ Mile later in the season is also a possible target for the improving filly.
“The filly came back good after the race, she’s doing well and she’s in good form,” said Bin Suroor. “The way she ran the other day, she would have only been 80-85 per cent fit, so we expect her to come on for the run and she looks sound and healthy.”
Optimistic Prospects
The Godolphin trainer is optimistic about Elwateen’s prospects, particularly in the Group Two May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.
“We’ll give her time but there is the Group Two for fillies at Doncaster, the May Hill, and that would look a nice option. After that the plan would be to run her in the Fillies’ Mile.”
Bin Suroor was impressed with Elwateen’s debut performance at Kempton, where she showed her talent and potential.
“I thought she always looked likely to win at Kempton, but I liked the way in the last furlong she really showed what she shows us in the morning, that is a good sign.”
Pedigree and Distance
The trainer believes Elwateen has the pedigree to handle the step up in distance next year, with her dam winning a Group One over a mile and a quarter. However, for this season, a mile is likely to be her optimum trip.
Fans of Horse Racing News can look forward to following Elwateen’s progress as she aims to secure her maiden stakes victory in the Betfred May Hill Stakes at Doncaster before potentially tackling the prestigious Fillies’ Mile later in the year.
