Horse Racing News: Horses to Watch After Royal Ascot Exploits

In the aftermath of the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting, leading horse racing analyst Tony McFadden highlights three horses who did not compete at the event but saw their reputations boosted through the performances of others.

Israr

One such horse is Israr, carrying the colors of the renowned Shadwell operation. The Group 2 winner from last season showcased his talent with a dominant three-and-a-quarter-length victory in the competitive Wolferton Stakes. Israr’s powerful surge to the lead inside the final furlongs indicated he is a very smart performer.

Passenger

Another interesting prospect is Passenger, the son of Ulysses, who had found the Derby coming too soon in his development. However, after an impressive return in the Huxley Stakes at Chester, where he broke the track record while readily overpowering Israr, Passenger appears poised for a big season ahead. An infection unfortunately prevented him from contesting the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, but a potential clash with City of Troy in the upcoming Coral-Eclipse at Sandown could be one of the racing highlights of the summer.

Bedtime Story

The Ballydoyle stable was responsible for two of the most impressive juvenile displays at Royal Ascot, with Fairy Godmother’s gutsy victory in the Albany Stakes and Bedtime Story’s dominant nine-and-a-half-length triumph in the Chesham. It is remarkable that Bedtime Story was the second choice for the stable on jockey bookings and in the market when she made a winning debut at Leopardstown earlier this month, showcasing the depth of talent in the Aidan O’Brien yard.

Noble Dynasty

Despite a challenging Royal Ascot for the Charlie Appleby stable, who failed to saddle a winner for the second consecutive year, one horse who may have seen his stock rise is Noble Dynasty. The six-year-old half-brother to Barney Roy gave the impressive Buckingham Palace Stakes winner English Oak 15 lb and a two-length beating when the pair met at Newmarket last month, suggesting he could be more than just a handicapper.

As the flat racing season progresses, these horses who missed Royal Ascot but impressed through the exploits of others will be ones for astute form students to keep a close eye on in the weeks and months ahead.
