Royal Ascot: Race Day One Preview
The opening day of the prestigious Royal Ascot meet promises thrilling action, with several top equine stars set to take center stage. French challenger Big Rock makes his highly anticipated return in the Queen Anne Stakes, seeking to recapture the magic of his emphatic Queen Elizabeth II Stakes triumph last year. Now under the tutelage of Italian handler Maurizio Guarnieri, the Rock of Gibraltar colt will be partnered by jockey Christophe Soumillon as he faces a stern test against the in-form Facteur Cheval and last year’s surprise Lockinge Stakes winner, Audience.
St James’s Palace Stakes
In the St James’s Palace Stakes, a classic rematch is on the cards as Rosallion looks to avenge his narrow defeat to the unbeaten Notable Speech in the 2000 Guineas. Trainer Richard Hannon is confident his colt has come on since his Irish Guineas victory, but will have to fend off the challenge of French raiders Metropolitan and Darlinghurst, as well as Aidan O’Brien’s talented duo Henry Longfellow and Unquestionable.
King Charles III Stakes
The action-packed card also features the King Charles III Stakes, where Mick Appleby’s star sprinter Big Evs bids to retain his Windsor Castle crown from 12 months ago. Charlie Appleby’s Crimson Advocate, US raider Asfoora, and the reliable Twilight Calls are among those looking to dethrone the talented speedster.
Coventry Stakes
In the juvenile contest, the Coventry Stakes, Adrian Keatley senses Classic glory with his progressive colt Francisco’s Piece, who faces tough opposition from Charlie Appleby’s Al Qudra and The Actor, trained by Richard Hannon. Aidan and Joseph O’Brien also have strong claims with Camille Pissarro and Cowardofthecounty respectively.
With a stellar lineup across the card, day one of Royal Ascot is set to deliver world-class equine action that will captivate racing enthusiasts.
