Horse Racing News: Fantastic Moon Eyes Redemption in Grosser Preis von Baden

Fantastic Moon, the promising colt trained by Sarah Steinberg, will attempt to go one better than his sire Sea The Moon when he competes in the prestigious 154th Grosser Preis von Baden this Sunday.

Sea The Moon, Fantastic Moon’s father, finished as the runner-up in this very race back in 2014 as the odds-on favorite. Now, the younger horse will look to emulate his sire’s success and capture the coveted Group One contest at Baden-Baden.

Fantastic Moon had a strong three-year-old campaign, winning the German Derby at Hamburg and securing second-place finishes in the Group One Grosser Dallmayr-Preis and the Prix Niel before contesting the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, where he finished 11th.

This season, the colt made a solid return, finishing second in a Listed event at Hoppegarten before a disappointing run in the Prix Ganay at Longchamp in April. However, he bounced back with a victory in the Group Two Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft at Cologne and another second-place finish in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis.

“We have good ground here in Baden-Baden, it’s summertime and it’s 30 degrees, so we hope we’ll get his best ground,” said Fantastic Moon’s owner, Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten of Liberty Racing.

The field for the 154th Grosser Preis von Baden includes one English-trained runner, William Haggas’ Dubai Honour, a proven globetrotter with multiple Group One victories to his name. Baumgarten acknowledged the tough competition, saying, “Dubai Honour is a multiple Group One winner, so it’s not going to be easy to win, but we hope he will run a good race and improve a little bit from his last run.”

With a strong pedigree and a determined trainer-owner combination, Fantastic Moon will be looking to make his mark in the prestigious Grosser Preis von Baden and secure his first Group One triumph.
