Exciting Horse Racing News: Gabaldon’s Strong Second-Place Finish at Royal Ascot

(June 24, 2023 – Miami, FL) Gabaldon, the rising star of the horse racing scene, made a strong showing at the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting in Great Britain on Wednesday. The 2-year-old colt, trained by Joseph D’Angelo, finished a commendable second in the highly competitive Windsor Castle Stakes.

“He came out of the race good and he traveled good too,” said D’Angelo on Friday at Gulfstream Park, after Gabaldon’s return to the United States on Thursday. The colt is currently in quarantine at Churchill Downs, with the trainer reporting that “All looks good with him. Everything is in good order.”

Gabaldon had earned his spot in the Windsor Castle field by capturing the $120,000 Royal Palm Juvenile at Gulfstream Park on May 11. This victory secured him a spot in the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting and a $25,000 travel stipend. Under the guidance of jockey Emisael Jaramillo, Gabaldon set the pace in the six-furlong Windsor Castle Stakes before settling for a strong second-place finish behind the winner, Ain’t Nobody.

“I was very confident in him. I really liked him for this race. I thought he would be so, so tough,” expressed the proud trainer, D’Angelo.

The long-range goal for Gabaldon is the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar on October 31. However, the trainer has not yet set a schedule for the gray colt’s next race, as he wants to give the horse time to recover from the long international trip.

“He is going to decide where he goes,” said D’Angelo, emphasizing the need to allow Gabaldon the necessary rest and recuperation after his impressive performance at the Royal Ascot meeting.

Fans of horse racing can look forward to seeing Gabaldon back in action soon, as the talented young colt continues his journey towards the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
