Gosden Duo Shine as Field of Gold Claims Solario Stakes Victory
Newmarket, [Current Date] – In a notable win for the Gosden training team, Field of Gold confirmed his promising potential by securing victory in the prestigious Sky Bet Solario Stakes at Sandown. This triumph marks a significant moment in what has been a challenging season for the Clarehaven stables and their jockey Kieran Shoemark.
The grey colt, sired by the talented Kingman who won the same Group Three contest for John Gosden in 2013, delivered a commanding performance. Field of Gold’s success represents the seventh overall win for the handler and a second in partnership with his son Thady, following Reach For The Moon’s triumph in 2021.
“He’s a horse with plenty of class,” Gosden said, “and we’re looking forward to him.”
Jockey Shoemark maintained a confident ride throughout, as Royal Playwright attempted to make the running. When asked to go on, Field of Gold surged clear, putting two lengths between himself and the chasing pack. Despite a late charge from Matauri Bay, who closed to within three-quarters of a length, the 5/4 favorite remained in control until the finish.
The team is now considering options for the remainder of the season, with the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and the Dewhurst Stakes emerging as potential targets. Juddmonte’s European racing manager, Barry Mahon, expressed a preference for the French route at this stage, noting the colt’s physical scope and suitability for longer distances.
With Field of Gold now a 14/1 shot for next year’s 2000 Guineas, and Matauri Bay available at 20/1, the pair could meet again in the prestigious autumn juvenile contests. Trainer Ralph Beckett remained optimistic about Matauri Bay’s performance, citing the colt’s greenness and the potential to benefit from softer ground conditions.
As the Gosden team and their talented young prospects continue to impress, the upcoming weeks and months promise to deliver an exciting chapter in the world of horse racing.
