Gulfstream Park to Resume Live Racing on Sunday with $525,000 Rainbow 6 Pool
Gulfstream Park, the premier horse racing destination in South Florida, is set to resume its live racing operations this Sunday, June 18th, after being forced to cancel races from Thursday through Saturday due to record rainfall in the region.
The 10-race program at Gulfstream Park on Sunday will feature an estimated $525,000 Rainbow 6 pool, offering an enticing opportunity for racing enthusiasts. First post time is scheduled for 12:55 p.m.
The cancelation of races over the past few days was a result of the severe weather conditions that saturated the South Florida area, causing damage and flooding in parts of Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties. The backstretch of the Hallendale Beach, Florida racetrack was also partially inundated, prompting officials to relocate approximately 300 horses to barns on higher ground or to the Palm Meadows training center.
Training at Gulfstream Park has already resumed on Saturday morning, and the $95,000 Powder Break Stakes, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been rescheduled to June 22nd.
Noteworthy Races on Sunday’s Card
Sunday’s race card includes a noteworthy $61,000 allowance optional claimer at a mile, which was originally planned for the turf but will now be contested on the Tapeta surface. The race will feature the promising Silvretta, a British-bred filly trained by Joe Orseno, as she makes her fourth start in the United States. Silvretta will face off against Typey, a $160,000 daughter of Accelerate trained by Jose D’Angelo.
Another highlight of the day is Race 9, a 6 ½ furlong allowance event on the main track for Florida-breds. One Sharp Cookie, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., is the 5-2 morning line favorite in this competitive event.
With the return of live racing and the enticing wagering opportunities, Gulfstream Park is poised to provide an exhilarating day of Thoroughbred action for racing enthusiasts in the region.
