(Naas) – In a display of class, the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly Heavens Gate emerged victorious in the valuable Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes at Naas Racecourse. The Churchill offspring, who had previously finished as the runner-up in a Navan maiden and then secured a win at the Curragh, showcased her talent by stepping up to the Group level.
Heavens Gate’s recent performances had been impressive, with a third-place finish in the Albany at Royal Ascot, followed by another third-place result in the Group Two Duchess Of Cambridge at Newmarket. Returning to a conditions race and competing for significant prize money, the 4-6 favorite, ridden by Ryan Moore, left no doubt about the outcome.
“She’s a lovely filly. Ryan has always said she wants to go up to seven (furlongs), so we’ll do something like that now,” said trainer Aidan O’Brien. “She’s very straightforward, kind and relaxed. She’s happy to make her own running and very happy to get a lead. She’s very comfortable on soft ground or fast.”
Heavens Gate maintained a comfortable lead throughout the six-furlong contest, eventually crossing the finish line with a length-and-a-quarter advantage to claim the first prize of €148,500. O’Brien praised the filly’s abilities, describing her as a “fine, big, powerful filly” and remarking on her rare straightforward nature.
This victory at the Kildare track showcases Heavens Gate’s potential as she continues her progression in the competitive world of horse racing. Fans and industry experts alike will eagerly await the filly’s next move as she looks to build on this dominant performance.
