Exciting Horse Racing News: Inisherin Primed for July Cup Glory at Newmarket

In the world of horse racing, all eyes are on Newmarket this weekend as the highly anticipated July Cup takes center stage. Trainer Kevin Ryan is brimming with confidence about the chances of his star sprinter, Inisherin, who is the firm favorite for the prestigious Group 1 event.

Inisherin, a son of the legendary sire Shamardal, has been in sensational form this season, rewarding connections with brilliant victories in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock and the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. His Group 1-winning performance at Ascot has catapulted him to the top of the market for the July Cup, where he will take on older horses for the first time.

“He’s been great, came out of Ascot really well and had an easy week afterwards. He worked on Saturday and worked nicely and seems really well in himself, and we’re really happy with him,” the trainer revealed.

Addressing the different track at Newmarket, Ryan added, “I can’t see that being a problem, he travels strongly and he’s run twice on the other course at Newmarket, finishing second in his maiden and then ran in the Guineas. He handled it very well, was very balanced going down in The Dip, and there are similarities to both courses. It’s a strong pull up to the line on the July Course, and I have no fears about that.”

The trainer also hinted that connections are likely to keep Inisherin to the shorter distances for the time being, leveraging his natural speed and versatility. “The fact is he would stay further, but has that speed, so we have no concerns sprinting with him. But if you wanted to go further with him, you could. He’s a very relaxed horse, he doesn’t need to sit up there; if you dropped him in behind horses, he’d go to sleep for you.”

Fans and enthusiasts of horse racing will undoubtedly be eager to see Inisherin in action at Newmarket, as the talented colt looks to add the prestigious July Cup to his growing list of achievements. With Ryan’s confidence in the horse’s abilities, the stage is set for an exciting showdown on the picturesque Newmarket turf.
