Japan-Based T O Password Undergoes Surgery After Kentucky Derby 5th-Place Finish
In a concerning update for horse racing enthusiasts, it has been reported that Japan-based T O Password, who finished fifth in the prestigious Kentucky Derby earlier this year, has undergone surgery to address fractures in both of his front legs. The news was shared by Australian journalist Graham Pavey, who is based in Japan, through a post on X.
According to Pavey’s tweet, the 3-year-old colt will require approximately six months to fully recover from the surgery and return to the racing scene. T O Password, trained by Daisuke Takayanagi, had not raced since his Kentucky Derby appearance, where he defied the odds with a 48-1 starting position and jockey Kazushi Kimura.
Prior to the Kentucky Derby, T O Password had an impressive start to his career, winning his debut in the Newcomer Stakes at Kyoto Racecourse and his second start in the Fukuryu at Nakayama Racecourse. He was one of two Japan-bred runners in the Kentucky Derby, alongside Forever Young, who finished third as the third betting choice.
