Horse Racing News: Jokers Grin Aims for Back-to-Back Wins at Belmont Park
Trainer Bernie Miller Hopeful for Exciting Galloper’s Success
Trainer Bernie Miller is hopeful that his exciting galloper Jokers Grin can continue his winning ways from his last start at Northam when he takes to the track at Belmont Park tomorrow.
Jokers Grin, a brother of the Group 3 winner Cup Night, will line up in the Macmahon Handicap (1000m) and will be looking to make it two wins from his first three starts.
Miller expressed his satisfaction with Jokers Grin’s maiden win, stating,
“It took the pressure off a bit and it was good to see what the horse has got. Patty has been doing a bit of work with him trying to teach him the way we want him to race. Each run he’s had he’s looks like he’s getting better at it. His manners are also slowly getting better at home.”
The son of Maschino has opened as the $1.85 favorite with online bookmakers, ahead of Close At Hand ($5.50) and Magnasonic ($7), in what promises to be another competitive field.
Miller is hopeful that a win tomorrow will pave the way for Jokers Grin to step up to Saturday company in the near future.
“The way he’s going and doing things better, I’d like to get him through this run and if he’s fit and healthy there’s a three-year-old handicap in two or three weeks,” he said.
The trainer is pleased with the continuous improvement shown by Jokers Grin and is excited about the possibilities that the next 12 months may bring.
