Lead Artist Wins the Group Three Thoroughbred Stakes
Thrilling Victory at Goodwood Racecourse
(Goodwood, [Current Date]) In a thrilling race at Goodwood Racecourse, the John and Thady Gosden-trained Lead Artist clinched victory in the Group Three Thoroughbred Stakes. The lightly-raced Dubawi colt, ridden by Kieran Shoemark, jumped out of stall one and hugged the far rail, setting a blistering early pace in the prestigious contest.
“The plan was to get a little bit of cover, but Tom Marquand said he was going to give Socialite a chance, so I didn’t want to get caught down on the rail with no cutaway. He made his own running and was very straight today.”
- Kieran Shoemark, Winning Rider
French Guineas runner-up Dancing Gemini and Native American were prominent early on, but the smooth-traveling King’s Gamble emerged as the main challenger once he found a clear run down the outside. However, Lead Artist had built up a comfortable lead, and despite a determined chase from King’s Gamble in the final furlong, the 9/2 shot crossed the line three-quarters of a length clear.
Trainer John Gosden praised Shoemark’s tactically astute ride, noting that the draw in stall one meant Lead Artist had to take the initiative early on.
“When you are drawn one here and the cutaway is gone, you have to get out and get a position because it’s the easiest place to get boxed in.”
- John Gosden, Trainer
The victory continues Lead Artist’s upward trajectory, having missed all of last year before making a winning debut in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket. Gosden is hopeful the colt can continue his progression, with the Celebration Mile at Goodwood a potential next target.
Rival trainer Ralph Beckett, who saddled the runner-up Task Force and third-placed Native American, was delighted with the performances of his charges.
“Delighted with both of them. I think King’s Gamble is still learning on the job, it’s only his fifth start, he’s run on conventional tracks so far, and to come here – it’s a test.”
- Ralph Beckett, Trainer
This thrilling Group Three contest has set the stage for an exciting summer of top-class horse racing action. Fans will be eagerly anticipating Lead Artist’s next outing as the promising colt seeks to build on this solid victory at Goodwood.
