Exciting Horse Racing News: Lonhro’s Queen Aims for Country Championships Berth After Highway Handicap Wins

(Sydney, Australia)

In the latest developments from the world of horse racing, the talented mare Lonhro’s Queen has her sights set on a berth in the prestigious Country Championships Final after claiming back-to-back victories in the Highway Handicap.

Originally trained in Sydney, the Gooree Stud-owned Lonhro’s Queen is now campaigned by Scone-based trainer Cameron Crockett. Despite her impressive form, the mare is ineligible for this year’s running of The Kosciuszko (1200m) as she has not been in Crockett’s care for the required 12-month period.

“If she can run 1400 metres, we will aim at Tamworth [Country Championships Qualifier],” Crockett said. “If she can’t run 1400 then we will find something else. She has a lot of ability so there will be plenty of options.”

Jockey Jason Collett, who has been aboard Lonhro’s Queen for her last two wins, believes the mare deserves a chance to extend her impressive finishing speed over the longer distance.

“That seemed to be a strongly run 1200 and she was strongest late,” Collett noted. “She has been tried over further but that was early in her career. You’d definitely have a crack at it. I don’t see why she wouldn’t run 1400.”

Lonhro’s Queen, who is out of the three-time stakes winner Queen Of The Hill, has now won four of her five starts since joining Crockett’s stable. Her latest victory came in the Highway Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday, where she unleashed a powerful late charge to reel in Super Norwest and Cool Storm.

With her proven ability to deliver strong finishes, Lonhro’s Queen will now be hoping to translate that form to the 1400m distance as she aims to secure a spot in the coveted Country Championships Final during the Sydney autumn carnival.
