Magic Time Seeks Stradbroke Redemption After Kingsford Smith Setback

Trainer Grahame Begg remains optimistic about Magic Time’s chances in the upcoming G1 Stradbroke Handicap this Saturday, despite the mare’s misfortune in the Kingsford Smith Cup.

Recalling the incident, Begg explained to racing.com, “We think the horse outside of her started abruptly, got on the outside of her plate, and buckled it really badly.” He noted that jockey Michael Rodd did not feel the mare was performing at her best after that point, and she was then “galloped on during the race, so she was in the wars on that occasion.”

Despite the setbacks, Begg praised Magic Time’s versatility, highlighting, “She handles any going, she’s an all-rounder. She’s won on the synthetic as well, so it doesn’t matter to her.” Emphasizing her merit, he added, “That’s a good weight for a mare, but she’s a dual G1 winner so she deserves it I guess.”

“She was in the wars on that occasion & it was a very messy run race,” he said. “Magic Time had a few excuses last time out, but she’s recovered well ahead of the G1 Stradbroke Handicap.”

Fans and racing enthusiasts alike will be eagerly watching to see if Magic Time can bounce back and deliver a championship-caliber performance in the prestigious Stradbroke Handicap.
