Mystik Dan Transported to Kentucky in Preparation for Future Races
Lexington, KY – In a strategic move, the connections of Mystik Dan have transported the Kentucky Derby winner from New York to Kentucky, with a brief layover at trainer Kenny McPeek’s Magdalena Farm before heading to Churchill Downs.
Speaking to Horse Racing Nation on Monday, McPeek explained the logistics behind this decision.
“We had a truck coming back from New York yesterday, so we dropped him here (at the farm) because we didn’t have room at Churchill. We had one too many there already. And then we’re working on getting him moved back over.”
After his impressive Kentucky Derby victory, Mystik Dan went on to finish second in the Preakness Stakes and eighth in the Belmont Stakes. Following the Belmont, McPeek revealed that the Goldencents colt “scoped with a little bit of mucus” and would be given a brief respite before being targeted for the Grade 1 Travers Stakes on August 24th.
“He’s fine,” McPeek affirmed on Monday, though no firm decision has been made regarding Mystik Dan’s next race.
“He’s just easing back into things, and he’s only been back to the track for a week, not even that. The Travers, we’ll see. A mile and a quarter off the layoff’s tricky, but it’s not ruled out.”
Enthusiasts of the sport will eagerly await updates on Mystik Dan’s recovery and future racing plans as the promising colt looks to build on his impressive performances in the Triple Crown series.
