Ancient Wisdom Triumphs in Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket

Newmarket, [Current Date] – In the action-packed events of Newmarket’s July Festival on Thursday, the Epsom Derby eighth Ancient Wisdom (6/4 favorite) emerged victorious in the Bahrain Trophy, the opening race of the day.

Jockey William Buick expertly guided the Godolphin runner, who had to fend off challenges from his three rivals two furlongs out. Ancient Wisdom ultimately crossed the finish line a decisive one and three-quarter length winner of the Group 3 contest. Royal Supremacy claimed second place, with Portland finishing third. The disappointment of the race was Space Legend, who could only manage fourth after stepping up in trip.

“He was the Group One winner in the race, and we were always confident about the ground and the trip,” Appleby said. “William gave him a positive ride, which was always our game plan, and it’s great to get this horse’s head back in front.”

Appleby went on to explain that the plan is to now target the Great Voltigeur and the St. Leger, with the team confident in the horse’s ability to perform well on the autumn campaign, provided the ground conditions are suitable.
