Horse Racing News: Pride Of Jenni Dominates Spring Carnival Betting Markets
The upcoming Spring Carnival in Melbourne and Sydney has horse racing enthusiasts buzzing, with a swath of betting agencies opening markets on the prestigious Group 1 events. One name that features prominently across these premier races is the Ciaron Maher-trained mare, Pride Of Jenni.
Pride Of Jenni occupies a place on the top two lines of betting in 10 major features, including being the favorite for the $5 million King Charles III Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on October 19 and the $5 million Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley a week later. Maher confirmed that the mare’s campaign is being geared around these two marquee races.
“She’ll run in the Memsie,” Maher said, referring to the $750,000 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on August 31, where Pride Of Jenni is the second favorite behind defending champion Mr Brightside. “The target is the race in Sydney, the mile, and then into the Cox Plate, which are only a week apart. They’re interstate, a week apart and (there will be) travel. It’ll be tough to do, but we’ll see how we go.”
The rising seven-year-old’s Spring Carnival schedule will not include a start in the $1 million Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on August 24, for which she was the second favorite behind Fangirl. Instead, she will be resuming in the Memsie Stakes before targeting the prestigious King Charles III Stakes and Cox Plate.
Pride Of Jenni is also second favorite in the $1 million Champions Mile (1600m) and $1 million Champions Stakes (2000m), both at Flemington on November 9. However, Maher said a start in those races would depend on how the mare recovers from the back-to-back Group 1 assignments in Sydney and Melbourne.
The mare has not raced since her stunning victory in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 13, which followed narrow defeats in the Australian Cup (2000m) and a win in the All-Star Mile (1600m). Maher reports that Pride Of Jenni is well-advanced in her spring preparation, having completed several strong training sessions.
Horse racing enthusiasts can expect to see this talented mare spearheading the charge for the coveted Group 1 prizes during the upcoming Spring Carnival.
