Saratoga Special Victory Showcases 2-Year-Old Standout

In an impressive display at Saratoga on Saturday, Showcase, a son of Uncle Mo trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., won the Grade 2, $200,000 Saratoga Special, solidifying his status as a 2-year-old to watch in the upcoming season.

The colt survived an inquiry over the stretch run, with Saratoga stewards ruling that Showcase did not significantly interfere with three rivals to his outside as Ortiz guided him out from the rail.

Showcase’s Dominant Performance

Showcase relaxed in the second flight during the early stages of the 6 1/2-furlong race for 2-year-olds, as First Resort and Ace It dueled for the lead through fractions of 21.85 and 44.78 seconds. The talented colt then moved along the rail to grab second at the top of the stretch, before accelerating past the leader in the final furlong to win by 3 lengths.

“This impressive performance from Showcase, trained by the renowned Todd Pletcher and ridden by top jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., has made the 2-year-old a horse to keep an eye on as the racing season progresses.”

Ace It held on for second, with Smoken Wicked closing for third. Showcase, who is now two-for-two following a 7 1/2-length maiden special weight victory at Aqueduct on July 6, returned $8.70 on a $2 win bet as the second favorite in the field behind stablemate Touchy.

Equine enthusiasts and horse racing fans will undoubtedly be eager to see what the future holds for this promising young colt.
