Promising Horses to Watch on the Horse Racing Scene

In this biweekly horse racing update, leading analyst J. Keeler Johnson highlights a selection of promising racehorses that have recently caught his eye, reviewing their past performances and previewing their upcoming starts.

Endlessly

Endlessly, a standout on the turf last year with wins in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf (G3) and Zuma Beach (G3), has transitioned nicely to the synthetic surfaces this season, taking the El Camino Real Derby and Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3). Now getting back to grass, the talented colt will contest Saturday’s prestigious Belmont Derby (G1) at Belmont at the Big A, where he looms as a dangerous contender from off the pace. (June 10)

Lakota Territory

The Todd Pletcher-trained Lakota Territory made an encouraging debut 14 1/2 months ago, earning a solid 96 Brisnet Speed rating. After an extended layoff, the now 5-year-old is set to make his return in Sunday’s allowance feature at Ellis Park. If he can pick up where he left off, Lakota Territory may have the upside to develop into a stakes performer. (June 11)

Legend of Time

In the Belmont Derby, Lakota Territory will face the formidable Challenge Stakes winner Legend of Time, who rebounded from a disappointing U.S. debut to record an impressive victory in the Pennine Ridge (G2) last out. This performance stamps the Charlie Appleby trainee as the horse to beat in the Grade 1 event. (June 10)

Mr. Wireless

Though he faltered in the Churchill Downs (G1) two months ago, Mr. Wireless remains a threat at the graded stakes level, having won the 2021 West Virginia Derby (G3) and Oklahoma Derby (G3). He’ll look to bounce back in Saturday’s Michael G. Schaefer Memorial at Horseshoe Indianapolis, a race he captured in 2022. (June 10)

She Feels Pretty

In the distaff division, the impressive Natalma (G1) winner She Feels Pretty will take on a trio of international raiders in the prestigious Belmont Oaks (G1) on Saturday. The Graham Motion trainee kicked off 2024 with a dominant score in the Hilltop at Pimlico and looms as a formidable win threat. (June 10)

War Like Goddess

Meanwhile, the accomplished War Like Goddess, a two-time winner of the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1), will look to add the Robert G. Dick Memorial (G3) at Delaware Park to her resume on Sunday. The Mike Maker mare is poised for another productive season after opening 2024 with a solid third-place finish in the New York (G1). (June 11)
