Horse Racing News: Star Galloper Mr Brightside Skips P.B. Lawrence Stakes for Extra Preparation
In a departure from his typical spring routine, the renowned racehorse Mr Brightside will not be pursuing a third consecutive victory in the P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield this year. According to co-trainer Ben Hayes, the nearly seven-year-old gelding has gained a significant 41 kilograms during his spell and will instead begin stepping up his training next week.
“We’ll skip the Lawrence Stakes this year to give him some extra time,” Hayes explained. “He’s in good condition, which is ideal for this stage. He’ll start even time next week. We’re very pleased with him; he’s gained good weight and looks great. He’s a happy horse and is training exceptionally well.”
The horse, which has earned over $13 million in prize money, is now expected to make his racing return in the prestigious Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 7 โ a race he won on his second run last year.
This strategic decision to skip the P.B. Lawrence Stakes and focus on the Memsie Stakes aligns with the co-trainer’s goal of providing the star galloper with the necessary preparation and optimal conditions for a successful campaign.
