Saratoga Racetrack: Raging Sea Surges to Victory in Thrilling Personal Ensign Stakes

In a captivating showdown at Saratoga Racecourse, Raging Sea, a 6-1 shot, seized the Grade 1, $500,000 Personal Ensign Stakes, a prestigious 1 1/8-mile race for older fillies and mares.

Bred and owned by Jon Clay’s Alpha Delta Stables, and trained by the esteemed Chad Brown, Raging Sea emerged victorious in a thrilling finish, crossing the line just a head in front of the favored Idiomatic, the reigning divisional champion. Soul of an Angel finished a distant third, followed by Randomizing and Xigera.

“The race was marked by a sizzling pace set by Idiomatic and Randomizing, who dueled ferociously through fractions of 23.28, 46.66, and 1:10.53. As the frontrunners began to falter, Raging Sea, ridden by Flavien Prat, made her move, closing down the middle of the track to overtake the leaders in the final strides and become a new millionaire in the sport.”

The winning time of 1:49.14 over the fast main track underscored the intensity of the competition. Raging Sea, a daughter of Curlin out of the Storm Cat mare Stormy Welcome, paid $14.40, $4.10, and $3.00 for the victory.

This triumph marks Raging Sea’s first Grade 1 success, adding to her previous stakes wins in the Comely (G3) at Aqueduct, the Doubledogdare (G3) at Keeneland, and the Shuvee (G2) at Saratoga.

The Personal Ensign Stakes

The Personal Ensign Stakes is one of Saratoga’s most prestigious events, attracting top-class fillies and mares in pursuit of racing’s highest honors. Raging Sea’s gutsy performance has solidified her status as a force to be reckoned with in the older female division, and her connections are sure to have their sights set on even greater successes in the future.
